Tell the General Assembly you SUPPORT a local sales tax for school construction and renovation in Charlottesville!

Updated (February 25, 2022):

Today, the House Finance Subcommittee killed Senator Creigh Deeds’ bill (SB 298) that would have authorized the City of Charlottesville to hold a referendum asking voters whether to use a local sales tax up to 1% to pay for school construction projects. Alongside Del. Sally Hudson’s companion bill, the bill failed to pass along a party-line vote 4-3 by Republicans.

Thank you to everyone who used their voice to advocate for the passing of this bill and thank you to Senator Deeds and Delegate Hudson for being champions of public education.

Why is this important?

Passage of this legislation is crucial for funding the renovation and expansion of Buford Middle School and converting Walker Upper Elementary into a first-class, citywide preschool center. We have a project designed and ready to go, we just need to close the funding gap.
